Caleb Amisi: Trump’s Election Triumph Spells Trouble for Ruto’s Government

Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 United States election continues to spark a variety of reactions across the globe.

Among the leaders commenting on Trump’s return to the White House is Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, who shared his thoughts on what it could mean for the future.

Amisi believes that Trump’s win is unfavorable for President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.

The young MP argued that Republican presidential candidates, including Trump, do not support the idea of using foreign aid to foster development in Africa.

He explained that Trump’s victory would negatively impact several ongoing U.S.-funded initiatives in Kenya, including the Haiti mission.

“Trump’s win spells trouble for the Ruto administration. He rejects foreign aid as a means to develop Africa. He won’t be handing out free sanitary products or mosquito nets to Kenya. He will view Kenya’s status as a non-NATO ally with skepticism unless the country demonstrates significant military strength. Additionally, he will likely pull the U.S.-funded Haiti program,” Amisi remarked.

Amisi pointed out that the Ruto administration will have to work harder to reduce its dependence on the U.S. for aid.

“However, there’s a chance Trump may visit a few African countries early in his term, primarily for diplomatic purposes, and to curb China’s growing infrastructure dominance. Kenya will now need to focus on becoming self-sufficient and moving away from reliance on Western aid. A Kenyan renaissance is needed,” he concluded.

The youthful MP also seemed to take a jab at U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, in the wake of Trump’s 2024 election win.

On Twitter, Amisi questioned why Whitman was receiving so much animosity from Kenyans, some of whom mocked her on social media after Trump’s success.

“Why is USAmbKenya becoming the most hated U.S. ambassador in Kenya’s history? What did she do?” Amisi asked.

In other developments, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was among the leaders who congratulated Trump on his victory.

The recently impeached deputy president praised Trump’s remarkable political comeback, applauding his resilience and determination.

After Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the closely contested 2024 election, Gachagua shared a message on social media, highlighting the significance of perseverance.

He emphasized that Trump’s journey to the White House was fueled by his unwavering resolve, despite facing numerous challenges.
