Tourists visiting Kenya relish mandazis and chapatis which are classified as street food, a new ranking by the travel magazine, Travel Noire, revealed.

The magazine, which is respected for its coverage of the world’s travelling habits, named Kenya among the 10 best countries for tourists to explore.

Kenya featured alongside South Africa, Morocco, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Seychelles and Zambia.

The outlet revealed that the best months to visit Kenya as a tourist were between June and October for lovers of the great migration of the Masai Mara National Reserve and December to February for warm coastal weather.

While in Kenya, tourists relish indulging in street food like mandazi (fried dough) or chapati (flatbread).

Other meals highlighted included fresh seafood dishes on the coast, a traditional Kenyan meal of ugali (cornmeal porridge) and sukuma wiki (collard greens).

“Witness the awe-inspiring Great Migration in the Masai Mara National Reserve, where millions of wildebeest and zebra embark on an annual journey,” read the ranking in part.

“Go on a thrilling hot air balloon ride over the savanna for breathtaking views. Visit a traditional Maasai village and learn about their unique culture. Relax on the pristine beaches of Mombasa or Diani Beach.”

Tourists also visit the country for alluring luxurious tented camps in the Masai Mara which ‘offer an immersive safari experience.’

“Beachfront resorts in Mombasa and Diani Beach cater to those seeking relaxation. Budget-friendly lodges and guesthouses are also available,” the outlet revealed.

In comparison, the best months to visit South Africa are May to September for dry weather and June to December for whale-watching at the Coast.

Foodstuffs that placed the Southern African country on the map were Cape Malay cuisine in Cape Town as well as South African wines, some of the finest in the world.

Morocco, on the other hand, is beloved between March to May and September to November for pleasant weather.

Food in Morocco includes traditional Moroccan dishes like tagine (stew) and couscous in a riad.

In my March interview with Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Chief Executive Officer John Chirchir for the Evening Brief Newsletter that I write on week days, the country expects an increased number of tourist arrivals as well as create more jobs for Kenyans.

The sector employs over 1 million people directly and is estimated that for every 10 tourists that arrive in Kenya, one job is created. The country is currently luring more Indian tourists into the country.

“Bollywood is big. Indian Musicians are also big. This is a collaboration in which in the foreseeable future we want to work and even have an Indian film shot in Kenya. we are looking at significant growth but also we want to be more present and have more engagement with trade, support conversion activities, and association of Kenya as a destination using traditional areas like film, Bollywood, and sports,” Chirchir stated.

Last year, Kenyan tour operators flooded Chinese social media sites in search of tourists from the East Asian nation.
