Kenya Restores Diplomatic Relations With DR Congo After Meeting with President Tshisekedi

After weeks of diplomatic misunderstanding between Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the two nations have finally resolved their differences.

The agreement followed an official visit by the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to the DRC as a Special Envoy of President William Ruto.

During his visit, Mudavadi held talks with President Felix Tshisekedi with talks focused on various issues of mutual interest.

The meeting resulted in the establishment of three key agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation between Kenya and the DRC.

During the meeting, the two nations agreed that the DRC ambassador who had been recalled immediately resume duties in Nairobi.

Similarly, the new Kenyan ambassador to the DRC was instructed to present credentials and commence work without delay.

The countries also agreed to form technical teams that will lead discussions to lay the groundwork for the Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) meeting to be held at a later date.

Mudavadi’s visit to DRC underscored Kenya’s commitment to deepening its diplomatic relations with the Central African nation.

Kenya and DR Congo further agreed on the resumption of direct flights to enhance connectivity and trade between Nairobi and
Kinshasa.

According to Mudavadi, the agreement was based on mutual trust and partnerships as well as on fostering mutually beneficial collaboration across various sectors.

“This paves the way for a promising future of shared prosperity and development,” Mudavadi stated.

“We want to assure the people of DRC that trade and business between the two countries will grow and we reaffirm that Kenya respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Congo,” he added.
